Crowns and Bridges
Crowns
Crowns are used to protect and cover a tooth and help to restore the tooth’s function and appearance. Crowns can also strengthen and stabilize teeth that are weak or improve a patient’s smile. They can be made of either metal, porcelain fused to metal, or all porcelain. Depending on your individual situation Dr. Liang and his staff will discuss the different options for you to come up with the best treatment plan and treatment outcome.
A dental crown may be needed to:
- Protect a tooth from breaking or to hold a cracked tooth together
- Restore an already broken or severely worn tooth
- Restore a previously root canal treated tooth
- Cover and support a tooth with a large filling
- Support a dental bridge
- Cover misshaped or severely discoloured teeth
- Restore a dental implant
Bridges
A bridge may be needed to restore the function of your bite or the look of your smile if one or more teeth have been lost due to trauma, decay or bone loss. The teeth on either side of the space are used to support the bridge and replace the missing teeth. This will restore the natural look of your smile and the function of your bite. Bridges can also help to improve your chewing ability, speech and you’re appearance. A fixed bridge is cemented or bonded to the teeth and is a permanent solution that is not removable.
In some situations crowns or bridges may not be the appropriate option. A removable partial denture or implants may be other options that might be considered. Dr. Liang and his staff will discuss all the options with you to come up with the best possible treatment outcome.
